Hi! Using STA-BIL Branded products that are already past the recommended shelf life of 2 years, will not have any negative effects on your fuel or system. Actually, it may not have any effect at all. The only time we do not recommend adding STA-BIL Brand is when there are noticeable flakes, sediment or sludge in the bottle. Hope that helps! If there are any questions, please feel free to let us know.

Is it not able to stabilize fuel or is it not good for your engine?? I’ve had a open bottle for several years and use it every 5 gal can for mowers and such. Is it going to have a negative affect on my motor or just not stabilize.

I’ve been using the same bottle of STA-BIL in my Echo chain saw and Echo trimmer, for almost 15 years. There has been no flaking or detectable color change in the STA-BIL liquid. Every year the trimmer sits in the garage with treated gas and is unused for about 4 months of the year. The chainsaw also contains treated gas year round, but sits unused about 7 months of the year. I love my STA-BIL, but after reading this site, I’m going to toss the very little bit remaining and get a new bottle. But after the wonderful results I’ve had, I will keep my next bottle at least 5 years before tossing it.
